The North East’s favourite carpet, rug & hard flooring retailer

Sisal

Sisal is obtained from the leaves of the Agave Sisalana plant of which there are many varieties, Crucial Trading sisal is sourced from Brazil and East Africa, which is considered the best quality plants for floorcoverings.

Sisal can be dyed to create a wide range of attractive colours with generally good lightfastness properties. However in direct sunlight deeper shades may be affected. Sisal is the hardest wearing of all the natural plant fibres and can be used in most locations around the home, although in areas of high moisture such as kitchens and bathrooms shrinkage may occur.

All Sisal installations must be fully adhered to a properly prepared subfloor and properly acclimatised prior to installation to prevent problems with rucking, shrinkage, premature wear and appearance retention problems. As with all Natural fibres, expect irregularities in the weave, slubs and knots as this is an inherant characteristic of these types of carpets.

This is the character of natural floorcovering and adds to the charm of the product. Naturally antistatic, the roughness of the fibre can be theraputic underfoot. All sisal floors should be intec treated as standard to minimise problems with stains and spills. Sisal must not be cleaned using water as watermarking can occur when dried. A Crucial Trading cleaning kit is recommended to deal with everyday stains and a dry cleaning compound for periodic cleaning.
