A brief history of the leading flooring supplier in the North East

Sunderland Carpet Centre has been trading from Station Road in Fulwell, Sunderland since 1987. The Company was started by brothers Tony and Steve Sidney after training with their father Tom Sidney as Carpet fitters. The Company, although much larger today, is still very much a family business. Although Steve and Tony are still very hands on, Peter and Adele are the backbone of the shop floor and they will listen and ask questions to guide you to the right floor covering for you.

We insist on measuring any area that we are going to lay any floor covering. Mark is the Main Estimator and Site Surveyor and has worked for the Company for nearly twenty years. He not only measures but provides us with a professional on-site inspection of the subfloor including moisture readings of wood floors and concrete slabs where applicable (this is absolutely neccessary with Wood, Laminate, Amtico, Karndean or any Vinyl, Linoleam flooring and in some cases carpet). This enables us to properly advise on sub floor preparation needed and the type of material that can and more importantly cannot be used.

We are members of Greendale Carpets and Flooring - the only stockholding buying group in the UK. We have been awarded Greendale 'best supporting member' for four consecutive years. We are retailer members of The National Institute of Carpet and Floor layers and actively support them by insisting all our fitting staff are not only NICF accredited but stay up to date with new techniques and equipment (see fitting section for more information). We are an official Amtico Design Studio which has Amtico trained staff and all Amticos latest products.

We are an official Karndean Design Studio with Karndean Advanced Trained Installers And Karndean trained sales staff. We are one of a handful of retailers who are main dealers for Nourison Carpets and Rugs in the UK. We are a Grundorf and Parador Main Dealer for laminate, Engineered Parquet and Solid Wood Floors our staff are trained to advise you on all aspects of preparation, installation and aftercare on any of these products. We are a Brintons Platinum Dealer and an official supplier of Ulster Carpet Mills and Axminster Carpets ltd. We can supply bespoke carpets Any Width up to 12mtrs wide with no seams, Hand carved, Any Colour with borders or centre pieces.

We carry our own stock ranges of Broadloom Carpet, Karndean, Engineered Wood, Solid Oak Flooring and Amtico Flooring in our warehouse which enables us to offer our customers very competitive prices. The companies and manufacturers we deal with are recognised in the industry as the very best in their particular field, whether that be carpets, designer flooring, laminate or real wood floors. We like all retailers have our favourites and this is based purely on the quality of the products and the service we receive before, during and more importantly after each sale. We only provide a full service to our customers. We are purely a retail store and choose not to supply and fit to any contract or commercial customers. With the obvious exception of Rugs we do not supply any floorcovering on a supply only basis. The store has a small frontage but has gradually grown over the years, in 2005 we extended the store to incorporate our Rugstore which previously had been situated in a stand alone site. The store is spacious and well lit with a very relaxed ambiance. We understand that buying floorcoverings can be a stressful purchase and we will do everything in our power to make it an enjoyable experience from start to finish.

We are not the same as other retailers. We will never tell you that:

• Everything is recommended for every room in the house (and Hotels)
• 50oz is better than 40oz.
• Loops are really hard wearing.
• Everything has 50% off and is half the price of everybody else.
• Good underlays hide bad floors.
• Stainfree Carpets don't get dirty.
• The quicker the fitter, the better he is
• The other guy must be right because he's done this for thirty years.

Of course all of these are not true, but you hear these every day from our competitors!

We have grown our business by giving honest knowledgeable advice, value for money, a professional installation and a proper after sales service. We don't feel the need to use cheap gimmicks pseudo sales and so called reductions to entice customers into our store. Our customers (word of mouth) are our best advertisement and we know as long as we look after them they will keep on looking after us.
